The Beginning
We constantly start over. Life is designed that way. I have said for decades “I have no fear, I have only love.” No fear. That means trusting the universe.
I put my corporate hat aside for a while, and as I replaced it with my familiar brushes and canvases I found other tools. Some I hadn’t seen in years, others I never used. I found newspapers and cans, bubble wrap and discarded toys. I found a camera, next to a sander, next to my old journals. I was getting a vision; clear instruction to head in an unclear direction.
A friend asked me – like only a true friend can – who am I to jump into the more conceptual art arena? After all, I’m a painter. I thought of the flashes of inspiration that were constantly coming to me, and wondered; who am I to refuse this work?
I then wondered, is this so different from what I have been doing in my career? Isn’t an art exhibit, an art experience, really one large brand experience, with recurring themes and messaging, icons, color pallets, typography and other elements? Yes. Yes it is. And that’s what I do.
Philosophy
Inspiration is everywhere. Think of being inspired as being ‘in spirit’ or being connected to your source. Concepts are ready to download, you only need to plug in.
Plugging in requires doing nothing, which is easy. Embrace silence, sit still, watch your breath, and listen. You don’t need formal training. Stop. Hush. Breathe.
