Born in Puerto Rico, robert mateo diago has lived in Northern New Jersey, NYC, South Florida and now Dallas for the past 16 years.

Primarily a self-taught artist, robert has been a student of art since childhood. Pursing careers in both fine and commercial art he received an Advertising Design degree from the Art Institute.

For over two decades he has worked his way from graphic designer to creative director, time well spent sharpening all skills, not only design. Color theory is color theory. Composition is composition. Balance, proportion, rhythm; the principles apply in both design and art.

Emerging as a primal need during a meditation retreat art became a priority in his life. Since then he’s been creating personal and commissioned pieces, works that grace many private collections.

robert mateo diago gladly suffers from a desire to want, have, know and try a little of bit everything. A self-described artist, designer, writer and all-around-creative-type, he is known for painting, working with assemblage – using recycled and reclaimed materials – photography, typography and journaling. His print-design background, identification as a love addict and spiritual nature are often apparent in his work.

In addition to group shows, the last two years included three solo exhibits, two in Dallas TX. Both junk drawer© at Steve Paul Production Gallery in Deep Ellum and every then…and now© at Ro2 Art Downtown presented intimate personal insights into the artist’s life. Playing in part the role of curator home•less•bound© – a conceptual and cerebral look at our attitudes towards homelessness – is a re-imaging of his first solo exhibit home•less•bound•ness© at Kolok Gallery in North Adams MA, presented this time around as a group collaborative for The MAC in Dallas.
